I was looking for a smaller, family-friendly community residency that offered opportunities in academic medicine. In addition, UA EM has a high Spanish-speaking population and integrated language learning during didactics.

Having spent the last 8 years in Baltimore, it was time to make my way back west. During the interview circuit, I felt that all the faculty I met truly cared about the residents’ growth and well-being. Additionally, the ED at UA sees a large underserved patient population at both county and academic sites, and the residents all seem to have fun together and get along super well.

Why did you choose UA EM?
I chose UA EM for three main reasons: the exquisite training, the incredible group of residents/faculty, and the unbeatable location. From airway experts to toxicology gurus, this program has everything I was looking for. The patient population is extremely diverse and with Spanish being my second language, it means a lot to me that I am able to care for the Latino(a) community. When I did my audition rotation here as an MS4, I instantly felt at home. Residency is difficult, and it makes a world of a difference to have your co-residents (who become your best friends) rooting for you through the process.
