What are your personal interests/hobbies?
I consider myself a homebody, so first and foremost, napping. But, I like to cook, watch some Netflix, have game nights, and spend time with family and friends. I'm also into the foodie scene, so I'm excited to explore the culinary options Tucson has to offer.
What are your professional interests?
I am very interested in medical student education and teaching. One day, I hope to become a program director and stay in the academic setting, while still being involved in patient care. Also, coming from a medical school in Grenada, I have become more interested in international and travel medicine.
Why did you choose UA EM?
The people. Plain and simple. Everyone I met during my interview was kind, friendly, and interested. I knew this was the type of nurturing and collaborative environment I wanted to train in. Also, a major pull was having that small-town feel, while still maintaining the big town amenities. I didn't realize how much there is to do in Tucson! There's something for everyone. Although it's on the opposite coast, I had that "gut feeling" from the second I stepped off the plane until I stepped back on. That's why it was pushed to my number 1 spot.
What's your ideal vacation?
I enjoy vacations where I just sit back and relax. So, I think my ideal vacation would be at an all-inclusive resort or a cruise to a tropical location with the people I love. It's more about the company versus the destination.

Over the course of my time in Tucson, I want to become fluent in Spanish. Also, I want to become more of an outdoors person. I don't really do much exploring in nature, but I hope over my 5 years in Arizona, I'll be the next Bear Grylls.

What are your professional interests?
Currently, my professional interests include medical education (both undergraduate and GME), out-of-hospital resuscitation, and sports medicine. I did spend a month with the UA ultrasound team and loved it! I also have a background in search and rescue, and I would like to further explore this area while at the UA.
Why did you choose UA EM?
It takes a village to be admitted and to get through medical school. I had so much Tucson support from my family, friends, and amazing mentors in my goal to be an EM doc. Choosing the UA for my residency training was the easiest decision I made as a 4th year medical student. The training is dynamic and robust, the faculty are approachable and sincere, and the UA environment is where I’d like my career to continue to grow.
What's your ideal vacation?
My wife and I built our relationship around epic road trips. I think we would love to try for Glacier National Park hopefully in the next year or two. Of course, my vacations don’t need to be as adventurous. I also enjoy a taco, cerveza, and a nice quiet beach in Mexico.
What are your non-medical goals during residency?
First and foremost, I hope to remain a supportive husband, brother, son, and friend during residency. Beyond that, I would really love to learn how to fly fish, dabble in video editing, and attempt to read a book that isn’t about medicine.

Why did you choose UA EM?
The people, the training, the location. Everyone was wonderful from the second I met them and made me feel instantly at home. All of the faculty and residents are genuinely happy to be here, and the faculty are supportive, passionate, and dedicated to teaching. Also, being a resident at UA South Campus means training in a mix of urban/rural as well as academic/community/county environments. This type of diversity is ideal for an EM resident. Lastly, although I love the PNW, it was time to move somewhere warmer and sunnier!

What are your professional interests?
I have a strong desire to work with underserved populations but outside of that I really want to gain more experience with the many different opportunities available to see what I truly want to pursue within EM.
Why did you choose UA EM?
If you look through the different class years, as I did before rotating here, you will see many residents allude to how incredible the people are. This was exactly my experience! I remember having a phenomenal shift with Dr. Ryan Miller (PGY-3 at the time of writing this) as a medical student. He made me feel welcome almost immediately. He empowered me to push myself and to think and plan as if I were the primary caregiver from presentation to disposition. I learned tremendously from him and I knew then that I wanted to be exactly like him with patients and with medical students one day. If this was the program that trained him then this was a program I sincerely wanted to be a part of.
Favorite activity in Tucson, or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program?
When I was researching emergency medicine residencies, I knew that I wanted to be in a geographic location with a strong Hispanic representation. My parents emigrated to the U.S. from South America before I was born so being a Hispanic was very influential to my upbringing. Additionally, having lived my entire life in South Florida means I have never experienced winter before and frankly would not survive outside of perpetual warmth. Tucson provided both of these things in addition to the beautiful scenery and friendly people.
What are your non-medical goals during residency?
My goal during residency is to embrace the new challenges inherent with moving to a new place far from what one is familiar with. I have lived in South Florida my entire life. I have seen enough palm trees to last a lifetime. I have even become completely unfazed by the popular “Florida man…” news headlines. Growing up and living in the same place for such a long time tends to bring you a myopic view of life. When I flew to Tucson (for the first time) for my audition month I stepped outside of the airport and saw my first cactus ever. I was in awe. When I left the airport, my eyes immediately caught sight of the mountains on the horizon. It was surreal. It is much harder to focus on the trivialities of every day when you’re surrounded by such majestic views constantly reminding you of something profoundly more meaningful.

I was born and raised as a Hoosier from Indiana! I grew up just north of Indianapolis in Carmel, IN. I completed both my undergrad and medical school at Indiana University and Indiana University School of Medicine.

What are your professional interests?
Besides Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine I’m very interested in wellness, leadership/administration, quality improvement, as well as Sports Medicine.
Why did you choose UA EM?
I was so fortunate to be able to do the “EMD 845: Emergency Medicine and Critical Care” away rotation during the summer of my fourth year of medical school. I immediately connected with people in the program and institution. I felt welcomed and challenged at the same time. It was by far my favorite rotation of medical school! I loved spending time in both the adult and pediatric emergency departments as well as the PICU. Being able to have a first-hand experience showed me how special this program, the people, and the city are. I was confident and knew I would have ample opportunity to fulfill both my professional and personal goals by being a part of this program!
What's your ideal vacation?
I love going to new places. So anywhere new, where I would be able to do something outdoors, try new foods and experiences, and broaden my perspective.
What are your non-medical goals during residency?
Being from the Midwest, I’m thrilled with the opportunity to explore this part of the country. In my time off I plan to sign up for more triathlons and races. On top of this, I hope to grow upon the friendships and relationships I’ve made with my new colleagues!

What are your professional interests?
Overall I’d like to use EM as a vehicle through which to live an adventurous life.
Why did you choose UA EM?
UAEM is an amazing program. At University campus you see plenty of complicated pathology, trauma, and a mix of patient population from all walks of life. The pace is fast and furious and every shift is a new adventure. As an intern, it’s easy to get in over your head, but there are always a few wiser attendings and/or senior/junior residents around to help you in a pinch.
At south, you get to treat 3rd world pathology with 1st world resources. The patient population changes to primarily Latino, and you see a ton of border-crossers, prisoners, and psychiatric patients. Your role in the ED changes to taking a bit more responsibility for your patients simply because there are less consultants available at any notice (I’m a bit biased because I’m a southie). The pace is a little more relaxed and there is a nice close-knit community feel.
