Why did you choose UA EM?
I did my away rotation at UA and really enjoyed the month that I spent rotating there. I was drawn to the close family feel, strong clinical training, and varied clinical sites.
Favorite activity in Tucson, or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program?
Easy access to the outdoors, great food, and not having to scrape ice off my windshield after an overnight.
What are your non-medical goals during residency?
I'm looking forward to getting back into climbing, exploring all of the great places to eat, and getting to know my co-residents.

What are your personal interests/hobbies?
Watercolor painting, swimming, running, reading, baking, traveling, spending time with friends and family, eating dessert (especially ice cream and cookies)

Global health, critical care, disaster medicine, caring for underserved populations
Why did you choose UA EM?
The people! From the virtual social events, virtual interview, and meeting some of the residents in person, I immediately felt the warmth and genuine kindness from this program. The training is excellent. Everyone is supportive of each other and eager to teach.
Favorite activity in Tucson, or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program?
The desert landscape is beautiful. I will never get tired of looking at all the incredible cacti. I've also heard there are a lot of good food spots.
What are your non-medical goals during residency?
I'd like to learn Spanish, travel to Europe and Asia with my fiancé, and maybe do another half marathon.

I want to spend time with my husband and daughter while enjoying the outdoors.

Why did you choose UA EM?
While rotating as a 4th year medical student, I truly admired how residents were consistently going above and beyond for their patients. I appreciated the opportunity to work in both an academic and community setting by rotating at multiple training sites. I was impressed how faculty pushed you to be better while cheering you on along the way. Finally, I experienced the UA EM sense of family. Their love and support for one another stood out among the rest and is ultimately why I ranked them #1!
Favorite activity in Tucson, or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program?
The mountains and the food! As a born and raised Arizonan, being somewhere warm was a must for me! In the Winter you can ski & snowboard, in the Spring/Fall you can hike & bike, and in the Summer, well you probably will want to just enjoy a drink by the pool. Also, Tucson's local eateries are next level. You will never feel tempted to eat at a chain here.
What are your non-medical goals during residency?
Cultivate new friendships, host more dinner parties, travel to cool places, balance work & family, and finally plan my fiancé & I's wedding!

Traveling and eating my way around the world, yoga flows, board game nights, snowboarding, photography, and keeping my houseplants alive.

Why did you choose UA EM?
UA EM is the perfect balance of everything I was looking for in a program - down to earth residents and faculty, a diverse patient population, excellent training, and robust academic/community/pediatrics experiences. After rotating here, it was an easy decision to make!
Favorite activity in Tucson, or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program?
The endless sunshine, because I'm always cold! I love that life in Tucson is easy going - there's no traffic and cost of living is very affordable, while still offering an amazing food scene and beautiful desert hikes.
What are your non-medical goals during residency?
Go on more adventures, level-up my Spanglish to Spanish, stay active and get stronger, learn to cook more Southeast Asian food like my mom.

The ability to experience learn in an academic and community setting, the residents seemed like a group of people I would want to work and hangout with, a diverse patient population, and a new city to explore!

Access to the outdoors!
What are your non-medical goals during residency?
Possibly trying to flip a house or two with my wife, setting up a home brewery, and to continue to explore the outdoors.

Favorite activity in Tucson, or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program?
The food, weather, and views in Tucson are unbeatable. Mt. Lemmon is also the perfect spot for a hike or weekend camping trip.
What are your non-medical goals during residency?
Visit the National Parks throughout the Southwest.
Where are you from?
Technically, I was an alien from Vietnam who landed in Michigan in an American Airlines space ship (ok, it was a Boeing 747).
What are your personal interests/hobbies?
Soccer, volleyball, traveling, music, and gardening
What are your professional interests?
International medicine (Antarctica would be fun!), and I would like to rock on ultrasound.
Why did you choose UA EM?
I got pumped about UA EM because of an ICU attending in Michigan, who, unbeknown to me, was a graduate of the program. It made me take a more in depth look and I after interviewing, I felt really connected to the program and population it served.
Favorite activity in Tucson, or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program?
The fact that I don't have to move all my plants indoors during the winter season...and cacti!
What are your non-medical goals during residency?
To not get sunburned and work on growing a little taller
Where are you from?
Have lived all over. Born in Alaska, but mostly grew up in the Midwest. I have moved through the Mountain West with stops in Colorado, Yellowstone National Park, and, most recently, Boise, ID.
What are your personal interests/hobbies?
Love being lost in the mountains, wandering to find a new lake or sitting by a fire. My pup and I use most of our time off to explore new trails, chase things (usually just him) and find new adventures. Love working with my hands, and I just finished renovating a house as a side project during medical school and enjoyed it immensely, except for when I didn't.
What are your professional interests?
Have always practiced and loved rural and austere medicine, most recently at critical access hospitals in the Mountain West. I do hope to head back to Yellowstone someday as part of their medical direction and continue to support the amazing work the PA's and NP's do there. Other than that, I am coming in with eyes and heart wide open to what sparks my passion.

I chose UA for two very simple reasons. The residents seemed genuinely happy and were so kind to one another and to us as potential candidates.

I have never been to Tucson and just learned how to consistently spell it correctly this last month, so I am just ready to experience everything that comes my way.
What are your non-medical goals during residency?
Be lost as often as possible.

What are your personal interests/hobbies?
I love playing soccer, rock climbing, dog parks, home brewing, guitar, traveling, hanging out with my wife, and any other stereotypical "EM hobbies" that you can think of!

The people seemed the most tight-knit and down-to-earth on the interview trail. Also, the academics, the patient population, there's great faculty, warm weather, and it's close to home!

The warmth, dog friendliness, and there are more outdoor activities than I could ever dream of doing!

I want to climb some great rock faces, hike awesome trails, learn Spanish, and spend some solid time with my wife, pup, and new friends!

I've lived in the mid-south my entire life, so moving to the desert will be a big change and I'm excited just to be in a new environment.

I would love to finally grow a vegetable garden that stays alive long enough to produce food.

Why did you choose UA EM?
I loved my interview day and my interactions with the residents and faculty. As cliched as it may sound, I felt like I instantly fit in and like I was a part of the family. I know I'll be prepared for anything when I graduate residency thanks to the outstanding training and welcoming environment.

I loved Tucson for the incredible outdoor access, sunshine, and the food and arts scene!

Learning Spanish, teaching my cat to be an adventure kitty, and remembering to apply sunscreen on a regular basis.

What are your personal interests/hobbies?
Software engineering, backcountry skiing, search & rescue, motorcycles, photography, graphic arts, and most things outdoors, especially road cycling, climbing, and backpacking.
I also play the drums, and really enjoy tinkering in my garage and building things for Burning Man.

Cacti! And all the fascinating military history and tech stuff nearby.

Publish another iPhone app, and not melt in the heat.

Why did you choose UA EM?
For one, the people! I felt right at home even interviewing in the virtual setting. I remember one resident saying that she wished there was a hospital filled with UA alums because it will be sad to part ways after graduating since they want to keep hanging out. Additionally, the variety of training sites, chance to improve my Spanish, and mentorship to carve out my EM niche absolutely drew me.

Absorbing vitamin D, enjoying the opposite of New England winters, and the outdoor adventures to be had right at our doorstep
