Can I start the EMS BS if I am still in a Paramedic certification course?

The degree program is designed for working Paramedics. If you would like to discuss your situation, please contact the EMS BS Academic Advisor.

Do I have to start in the fall semester?

No. AZ Online students can start in any term, including the mid-semester 7 Week 2 term. Main campus students can start in fall, spring, or summer terms.

 Can I complete the degree online?

Yes, the EMS BS is offered through AZ Online and as a MAIN campus degree.

Will my paramedic courses transfer?

Yes, you will be given credit for approximately 30 units toward the 120 units needed for the degree with NREMT certification. These transfer courses will not be used for the EMS courses in the major.

How long will it take to complete the degree?

It will take anywhere from 2-4 years. The time to completion will depend on how many transfer courses you bring in, your work schedule and other responsibilities.

Which science courses are required?

The degree requires 11 units of science. We recommend biology and physiology but will accept chemistry and many transfer courses. You can discuss your transfer courses with the academic advisor.

Do I need an Associates Degree to be admitted to the program?

No, an AA is not required. If you have completed an AA or the coursework towards an AA degree, we will work with you to use transfer courses that have been accepted by the university.

Can I get the Critical Care or Wilderness Medicine certifications after taking these courses?

No, all the EMS electives and core courses are offered fully online so there are no in-person skills measured.
