Why did you choose UA SC EM?

I was drawn by the close-knit community and opportunity to train in a mixed community/academic health setting, as well as the multi-cultural patient population. Also, as someone who's spent their whole life on the east coast, I was really excited for the chance to live somewhere new!

Favorite activity in Tucson, or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program?

Warm weather, beautiful landscape, and great restaurants

What are your non-medical goals during residency?

Try out new outdoor hobbies, meet new people, and raise my bench press to 315 lbs

What are your personal interests/hobbies?

I enjoy exploring with my family, camping, backpacking, mountain biking, and playing disc golf. I am also a fan of anything related to Star Wars, and playing board games.

What are your professional interests?

My professional interests include EMS, Disaster Medicine, and Rural Medicine.

Why did you choose UA EM?

I was looking for a smaller, family-friendly community residency that offered opportunities in academic medicine. During my third year medical school rotations, I fell in love with rural EM and wanted to have more rural EM opportunities. UA EM was the perfect mix of everything I was looking for! In addition, UA EM has a high Spanish-speaking population and integrated language learning during didactics.

Favorite activity in Tucson, or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program?

Our family loves the desert, and Tucson offers endless outdoor adventures, excellent biking opportunities, and plenty of sunshine. The communities within a short commute have excellent family amenities and good schools.

What are your non-medical goals during residency?

My non-medical goals during residency are to be the best dad I can be, teach my boys to mountain bike and swim, go on lots of camping trips, and stay physically healthy.

Whatever gets me outside, mostly: hiking, biking, skiing / ski mountaineering, gardening, hack river running, wandering desert mountain ranges and remote valleys.

Prehospital care, education, rural medicine, and ultrasound

Why did you choose UA EM?

The faculty were incredibly kind and interested during the interview process; this really stood out on the interview trail. I was also interested in the variety of clinical sites for training and the options for exploring rural medicine.

Favorite activity in Tucson, or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program?

The outdoor scene appears excellent and my partner has career opportunities in local parks and national forests. Furthermore, why not explore a new desert?

What are your non-medical goals during residency?

Dabble in canyoneering, grow food at home, explore southwestern public lands: Aravaipa canyon, coyote mountains, gila wilderness, and the apache national forest.

I was raised in northern Maryland, but have spent the last 6+ years living on the Gulf Coast with my husband and two cats.

What are your personal interests/hobbies?

I love outdoor activities like hiking, snowboarding, and surfing. I am a big fan of fitness, and enjoy crossfit and lifting heavy weights in my free time. I’m an avid reader and curl up on the couch with a good book and a strong cup of coffee any chance I get.

What are your professional interests?

I have a wide range of interests and can’t wait to find my niche in residency. I am interested in military medicine, sports medicine, medical Spanish, and clinical research.

Why did you choose UA EM?

I felt as if UA SC EM was the best fit from the start, with its supportive, close-knit environment, excellent reputation, and a mix of community and academic medicine. After speaking with faculty, the dedication to resident education was clear. I’m also excited about the opportunity to learn medical Spanish during training!

Favorite activity in Tucson, or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program?

The access to hiking and exploring the great outdoors is unparalleled! I also have family ties to the area, and spent several summers in Tucson as a kid.

What are your non-medical goals during residency?

I want to be able to converse in Spanish with patients, explore a plethora of hiking trails, and be able to identify all types of local cacti.

My active hobbies include weightlifting and anything outside- running, hiking, camping, biking, rock climbing, etc! I love a cozy movie night; I'm a big horror fan. I also enjoy playing cello, reading, stargazing, and taking naps.

Addiction medicine, social EM, critical care, wilderness medicine

Why did you choose UA EM?

I loved my interview day experience! Even though it was virtual, my conversations with faculty and residents made me feel like they were people I could really connect with and receive the best support from during training. I also really liked the patient population UA SC serves and the longitudinal Medical Spanish curriculum. Overall the mission and culture of the program, along with its more rural/community focus, aligned really well with the way I hope to practice emergency medicine.

Favorite activity in Tucson, or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program?

There are so many outdoor things to do in Tucson. The mountains, desert, and bike loop support my hobbies and the kind of lifestyle I desire. I'm also excited to eat all the delicious food I've heard about.

What are your non-medical goals during residency?

To the best of my ability I hope to: continue to participate and progress in my hobbies, show up for my loved ones, and give my dog the best life.

I love long distance running, skiing, and and starting a new hobby (seemingly) every month.

Pediatric emergency medicine, global health, and osteopathic manipulative medicine. Overall broad-spectrum practice and meeting the needs of the community.

Why did you choose UA EM?

This is a well reputed community medicine program with a strong Spanish-speaking population and a small, tight-knit group of residents with superb leadership.

Favorite activity in Tucson, or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program?

Tucson has an incredibly diverse population and very open feel. The food scene is excellent. Beautiful mountains and hiking trails are virtually in your back yard. As a plus, it’s very affordable to live here.

What are your non-medical goals during residency?

Read more books, befriend more cats, and take more trips.
