Combined EM & Peds Residency - Class of 2024

Class of 2024
Delaney Fisher, DO
Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine

Where are you from?

I grew up in Alaska, but my family moved to Winthrop, WA almost 15 years ago.

What are your personal interests/hobbies?

Spending time with my family and friends, camping and river floating, volleyball and tennis, listening to music and true crime podcasts, cooking and baking, board games and escape rooms, good movies and better naps. I also love to clean and organize. In fact, if I had not gone to medical school, I would be helping hoarders organize their homes.

What are your professional interests?

Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, International Medicine

Why did you choose UA EM?

When I auditioned here during my last year of medical school, the residents and faculty were all incredibly warm, welcoming, and funny. They made me feel comfortable and created a safe environment for me to learn, ask questions, and make mistakes. In comparison to other programs I interviewed at, the people at UofA are truly unbeatable.

What's your ideal vacation?

Hanging out with my family, preferably somewhere warm.

What are your non-medical goals during residency?

I have a minor in Spanish but can barely speak the language, so I hope to leave residency medically bilingual.

Eric Kersjes, MD
University of Michigan Medical School

Where are you from?

Grand Rapids, MI

What are your personal interests/hobbies?

Traveling, going to concerts (EDM, country, and rock are my favorites, but I like anything), cooking, trying new beer, trying to be a handyman, and just kickin’ it with the crew. I also like anything outdoors and active, so I’m hoping I can pick up some new hobbies living in Arizona.

What are your professional interests?

Peds EM and Critical Care

Why did you choose UA EM?

Mostly for the unique opportunities that I’ll have training in the combined EM & Peds program with the Tucson patient population. But I was also looking to move somewhere outside of Michigan for the first time, and Arizona offers so many activities and new experiences that’ll give a great work-life balance.

What's your ideal vacation?

Going somewhere I’ve never been before and learning as much as I can about the local culture. I’d go with my close friends and it would include many outdoor activities, eating and drinking. In medical school I was able to visit Thailand, Colombia, Peru, the Netherlands, and Croatia. Next up, Japan or Argentina!

What are your non-medical goals during residency?

This is my first time living outside of Michigan, so I want to learn as much as I can about Arizona and the Southwest and do as many new things as possible.

Sarah Ring, MD
University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson

Where are you from?

Flagstaff, AZ

What are your personal interests/hobbies?

Growing up in Flagstaff near to the forest and trails inspired a love for the outdoors. Whether it’s trail running, mountain biking, climbing, back packing, hiking, dirt biking, or camping I feel invigorated when I am outside doing just about anything. A close second is spending time with my two dogs, Willow and Renny. They never fail to make me smile or laugh and their greetings when I get home are second to none.  I also enjoy yoga, dabbling in cooking and baking, can almost always be found jamming to some kind of music, and nothing beats a good cup of coffee in the morning.

What are your professional interests?

Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Wilderness Medicine, Rural Medicine

Why did you choose UA EM?

The amazing Peds/EM group!!! The entire department is filled with fantastic, fun-loving people to work with and the residents are absolutely stellar and feel like a family.  I love the diverse patient population of Tucson. Tucson also has such great access to the outdoors, a lively, funky culture, and all the street tacos you could ever dream of! The passion of this program and place inspires me to become the best physician I can be.

What's your ideal vacation?

Playing somewhere high in the mountains from dawn to dusk. Perhaps a return trip to New Zealand!

What are your non-medical goals during residency?

Run a marathon and do another mountain bike race! Backpack in the Grand Canyon and get back to the Weminuche Wilderness in Colorado. Make lifelong friendships and travel to visit friends around the country. Keep the stoke high and continue to find balance!
