High School Students to Explore Health Careers at Banner – University Medical Center South, Feb. 12

Along with hands-on exercises from intubating a mannequin to peering inside someone’s stomach via ultrasound, Tucson area high school students will get a chance to learn about careers in health care at the “Pathway to Success” health career fair hosted at Banner – University Medical Center South.

Paramedics Join Department’s Administrative Medical Direction Team

Brett Welander and Jesse Brower, certified emergency paramedics, joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in October to assist the growing EMS Administrative Medical Direction Team in providing medical oversight for local EMS agencies. Both will be working with the team to maintain existing services the department provides for Tucson Fire Department (TFD), as well as implementing new programs.

William Denq, MD, clinical assistant professor, is one of the new additions to the UArizona emergency medicine faculty. Dr. Denq (pronounced Den) brings specialized expertise in sports medicine. He also is an active blogger and has created an entire video series on EM ortho splinting on ALiEM. He is active in event medicine, including the University of Utah and U.S. Ski and Snowboard teams.

Peter Rosen, MD, clinical professor at the University of Arizona Department of Emergency Medicine, passed away Nov. 11 at his home in Tucson, Arizona, at the age of 84. Dr. Rosen was widely regarded as emergency medicine’s founding father.
