Where are you from?
I’m from the Lou and I’m proud (St. Louis)
What are your personal interests/hobbies?
I like to push my comfort level climbing and mountain biking. I also love watching and playing soccer (Spurs and Barca fan).
What are your professional interests?
Overall I’d like to use EM as a vehicle through which to live an adventurous life.
Why did you choose UA EM?
UAEM is an amazing program. At University campus you see plenty of complicated pathology, trauma, and a mix of patient population from all walks of life. The pace is fast and furious and every shift is a new adventure. As an intern, it’s easy to get in over your head, but there are always a few wiser attendings and/or senior/junior residents around to help you in a pinch.
At south, you get to treat 3rd world pathology with 1st world resources. The patient population changes to primarily Latino, and you see a ton of border-crossers, prisoners, and psychiatric patients. Your role in the ED changes to taking a bit more responsibility for your patients simply because there are less consultants available at any notice (I’m a bit biased because I’m a southie). The pace is a little more relaxed and there is a nice close-knit community feel.

The cafeteria food.

Eating all the Mexican food.

Work on my Español.

Where are you from?
Omaha, Nebraska.
What are your personal interests/hobbies?
Reading, being outdoors, listening to and playing music.
What are your professional interests?
EMS, international medicine.
Why did you choose UA EM?
I like the city of Tucson. Diverse patient population, approachable faculty and residents.
Favorite activity in Tucson?
Escaping to Mt. Lemmon.
What are your non-medical goals during residency?
Spend lots of time getting to know my excellent class of co-residents.

Where are you from?
Hütschenhausen, Germany and Colorado Springs, CO.
What are your personal interests/hobbies?
Hiking, movies, board games, and (since I’ve moved to Tucson) hibernating at the pool.
What are your professional interests?
I’ve turned my medical career into a platform for LGBT advocacy, and spent much of my free time in med school working in that field. I plan to do the same in residency.
Why did you choose UA EM?
This residency was the one place that clicked for me. I loved the program, the attendings, and the residents, but--most of all--I loved the emphasis on belonging to a team.

Hiking!
What are your non-medical goals during residency?
Avoid heat stroke.

Beach, food, sports, gym, hang with friends, chill with pup, thrifting.

Community EM, working with underserved populations.
Why did you choose UA EM?
I chose UA EM because of the people I met during my away rotation. The faculty, residents, and support staff are great, and who you work with makes all the difference in the ED. Warm weather huge plus!
Favorite activity in Tucson?
Exploring the city and wilderness with my wife and our new dog.

International travel and improving Spanish.
