Robert N.E. French, MD, MPH

Robert French, MD, MPH serves as core faculty in the University Campus Emergency Medicine residency and works clinically at Banner UMC Tucson and South Campuses. He is fellowship trained and sub-boarded in both EMS and medical toxicology. Dr. French is an assistant medical director in the Department’s EMS medical direction group. His responsibilities include shifts with the EMS physician field response program and medical direction for the Southern Arizona Regional Hazmat Team and the Southern Arizona Regional Technical Rescue Team. He is a medical team manager for AZTF-1 and has deployed with urban search and rescue teams with FEMA and USAID to natural disasters both domestically and internationally. He also serves as a Flight Surgeon in the Arizona Air National Guard. Medical toxicology consultation services are provided through the Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center.
Dr. French’s academic interests include: the pre-hospital treatment of hazardous materials exposure, hazardous materials incident emergency management, medical support of technical rescue operations, and the toxic hazards of the Sonoran Desert.
He is an avid, recreational SCUBA diver and particularly enjoys diving along the nearby Baja Peninsula and Revillagigedo Islands (Socorro).
