Where are you from?

I say that I am from San Antonio. It is a city that stole my heart and I ran away with it, while spending undergrad and medical school there. In fact I bleed Salsa now. True fact. That being said, I was raised in Carrollton, Texas (Dallas ish) and spent my entire youth there.

What are your personal interests/hobbies?

I take care of my dog (Annie, the Sassy Latina Princess) and try to be her best friend and companion as much as possible. That generally means taking her wherever I go that she is allowed. Beyond that I love exploring new breweries, drinking craft beer, playing video games, eating good food, binging on Hulu/Netflix, and cooking to my heart's content.

What are your professional interests?

Education and LGBT advocacy/patient care.

Why did you choose UA EM?

The desert beckons you in! But really, the people here are fantastic, the program checked off every single one of my "boxes", and I felt like I belonged here on interview day. Also, Tucson has a weird and bohemian streak that reminds me of home (San Antonio), Tucson is UNESCO World City of Gastronomy, and I realized I didn't like cold winters after doing a surgical intern year in Boston.

What's your ideal vacation?

Traveling to a foreign country where I can eat good food, drink well, and see beautiful sights. Be immersed in the culture and wonder wherever I go.

What are your non-medical goals during residency?

Further expand my cooking and baking ability, start catching up on comic book reading (eg Spiderman, X-Men, Deadpool), get a six pack (okay, I will settle for a 2 pack), catch up on my videogame backlog, and explore Tucson to its full extent.
