Where are you from?

I was born in rural south-central PA, but have lived and worked in the Washington DC area and Chapel Hill, NC.

What are your personal interests/hobbies?

I enjoy travelling, hiking and camping. I like to cook too, but there is plenty of room for improvement. My wife and I bought our first house so it looks like I am going to become an amateur carpenter as well.

What are your professional interests?

I love EM and am interested in Critical Care as well. The two dovetail nicely. I am also keen to work with Spanish speaking populations and improve my language skills, hopefully to fluency.

Why did you choose UA EM?

My wife was born in Tucson, and her mother lives here. I have been visiting Tucson for years now and fell in love with the city and AZ in general. It's big enough to have everything you need, but has a laid back vibe with true wilderness at your doorstep. In terms of training, UA is tough to beat. The city offers a broad spectrum of pathology due to the unique population (snowbirds, rural, urban).  The faculty at UA are incredibly skilled as well as down to earth and approachable. I did an away rotation here during 4th year and fell in love, particularly with South Campus. It truly is the best of both worlds as it is a community program in an academic setting. The training environment really fosters independence.  Finally, one of my life goals both inside and outside of medicine is to become fluent in Spanish. At only 60 miles north of the border, UA offers a great opportunity to immerse oneself. All in all, UA-South is one of the best and most well-rounded programs in the country.

What's your ideal vacation?

I want to take a river-boat tour down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon.  They say that every turn in the river is a new world.

What are your non-medical goals during residency?

The Southwest is beautiful.  I intend to take full advantage of Tucson's location to see as much as I can.  I'd love to see Baja California, the Sea of Cortez, and visit the world famous national parks of Arizona and Utah. Plenty of memories to be made.
