New Faculty Specializing in Simulation and Toxicology Join the UA Department of Emergency Medicine

Kate E. Hughes, DO
, has joined the University of Arizona Department of Emergency Medicine as clinical assistant professor and associate director of Emergency Medicine Simulation after completing the UA Medical Simulation Fellowship. Dr. Hughes received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree and emergency medicine residency training from Michigan State University and Sparrow Health System. Additional training included Harvard Center for Medical Simulation Comprehensive Instructor Course and the ACEP Teaching Fellowship Course. She was awarded the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians Outstanding Resident of the Year in Emergency Medicine. Dr. Hughes currently has research studies underway using medical simulation as an educational tool for medical students and residents, as well as for faculty development.

 


Jaiva Larsen, MD
, has been appointed UA Department of Emergency Medicine clinical assistant professor after completing a Medical Toxicology Fellowship at the UA. Dr. Larsen is a graduate of Georgetown University School of Medicine and the UA Emergency Medicine at South Campus Residency Program. During her residency training, she was awarded Outstanding Senior Resident Researcher and Outstanding Achievement in Medical Toxicology. Dr. Larsen will practice at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System and at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson and South Campuses.
