DEM Faculty Recognized for Excellence by UA College of Medicine – Tucson

November 14, 2018

Aaron Leetch, MD, assistant professor of emergency medicine and pediatrics, was awarded the College of Medicine – Tucson Clinical Excellence Award presented during the General Faculty Meeting Nov. 7.

The UA College of Medicine – Tucson Clinical Excellence Awards recognizes exemplary patient care. Physicians at the assistant or associate professor level were nominated by their colleagues in September. Nominees underwent rigorous review and were evaluated for their consistency in delivering exceptional clinical care; outstanding ability to assist and share expertise with colleagues; encouragement of medical students and residents to express ideas and ask questions; and use of innovative methods to assure positive clinical outcomes.

Awardees also were selected for their sincere compassion for patients and humanistic approach to patient care and interactions with other health-care professionals.

Elaine Situ-LaCasse, MD, assistant professor of emergency medicine, received the distinguished AMES Excellence in Clinical Science Teaching Award at the 2018 Faculty Teaching Awards and the Vernon and Virginia Furrow Awards ceremony Nov. 8.

Every fall semester individual faculty, housestaff and rural health preceptors are recognized for their particularly noteworthy accomplishments as teachers. These awards recognize faculty members for teaching excellence and their ability to encourage intellectual excitement; inspire the discovery of knowledge; and foster critical inquiry in the classroom, lab and hospital or in the clinic.
