Into the Wild: New Wilderness Medicine Program at UA Hones Patient Care Skills in Austere Conditions
Teaser Body:

The sterile, high tech and fully stocked clinical environment at the University of Arizona Medical Centers provide an ideal learning and teaching environment, but this semester students, residents and faculty had the opportunity to demonstrate their medical skills in the wild, rugged terrain of the Arizona wilderness.

The call of the great outdoors is irresistible to many and in Southern Arizona, you can count on nearly 300 sunny days per year. But venturing into the wilderness and exploring can quickly lead to an extreme environment, where an injury can leave you stranded on a mountaintop or in the desert, injured on a remote bike path or severely dehydrated.
