The confab continues with discussion of new and old issues. New items included the packed presentation this morning entitled "There's an App for that"--handheld devices and applications you should know about by Dr. Michael Bond, residency program director at U Maryland. Alumni who want a PDF file of the presentation, please let me know. Dr. Bond demonstrated how a smartphone can streamline and improve patient care and make your job easier by putting information at your fingertips without carrying around reference guides and tools. Information revolution applied to emergency medicine!
Dr. Mike Granovsky discussed smart documentation and coding to avoid "RVU Killers" and noted the trend toward increasing share of EM physician compensation based on RVUs, even in academic medicine.
Finally, Dr. Kirk Jensen gave a presentation on reaching out to hospital specialists to reduce ED boarding time and improve patient flow. EM physicians take the lead in forging collaborative patient care teams to open up the back door of the ED to get our admitted patients to their beds upstairs.
That's it for now; one more day of learning and deliberations. --Dale
