Rebecca Goulson, MD
University of Minnesota Medical School

Where are you from?

New Prague, Minnesota

What are your personal interests/hobbies?

My partner is from Alaska, so we spend our summers up there on the boat fishing for halibut and salmon! We also love the Seattle Seahawks, our cats are named Pete and Carroll.

What are your professional interests?

Rural Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics. I am hoping to practice in Alaska one day within the rural communities.

Why did you choose UA EM?

After completing an away rotation at U of A, I knew it was the perfect fit for me. The residents made me feel like part of the family. Additionally, the opportunity to train in the combined EM and Peds program is such an incredible and unique pathway.

Favorite activity in Tucson, or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program?

The taco trucks are out of this world! Big foodie over here and Tucson really checks the box!

What are your non-medical goals during residency?

I want to learn how to climb, find THE best taco truck, see the Grand Canyon and go an entire year without seeing snow (specifically Minnesota snow)!

Favorite activity in Tucson, or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program?

Island girls don't like the cold. Tucson also has a pretty big Pacific Islander Community!

What are your non-medical goals during residency?

Host memorable game nights, finish my Lego japanese village, pay off my student loans, get another loan to buy a house (sad).

Diego Urbina, MD
University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson

Where are you from?

Lima, Peru & Worcester, MA

What are your personal interests/hobbies?

I love cooking, especially when I get to share my food with others, and being outdoors either swimming, hiking, mountain biking, running, and even learning new activities like rock climbing. A passion that has stuck with me since my younger years has been music, from going to concerts to creating music with my more talented family. More than anything I love doing these activities with my fiancé, my corgi, and my cat.

What are your professional interests?

Global Health, Rural Medicine, Wilderness Medicine, One Health, and Advocacy.

Why did you choose UA EM?

As a UofA College of Medicine Student here in Tucson, I have experienced firsthand the remarkable set of skills, knowledge, and compassion that residents in the program have, which is developed by the passion for teaching, medicine, and helping patients that come from attendings and senior residents. I wanted a program that would well prepare me as an EM/PEDs physician with teachers, mentors, and peers that are truly a family to one another.

Favorite activity in Tucson, or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program?

The natural beauty all around Tucson, the community, and the amazing food.

What are your non-medical goals during residency?

My nonmedical goals are to adopt as many animals as I possibly can, hopefully some goats and chickens along the way. I also want to take advantage of being in Tucson, exploring more of its outdoors, and hopefully trying as many new restaurants as I can. I would also love to get my scuba diving certificate, and be proficient enough at rock climbing so that I don't look like a scared cat stuck on a tree.
