The UA Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) and its faculty work to excel in the profession and to execute and promote our department mission to advance health and wellness through outstanding patient care and research, while serving as educators and mentors to our residents, fellows and students. The faculty in the DEM are some of the most outstanding academicians in the country, serving as presidents of the American Board of Emergency Medicine, the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine, the Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors and the American Board of Medical Specialties. Most major textbooks and peer review journals in the field of emergency medicine have authors or editors from our faculty. In addition, our two-year Clinician Scientist program is producing superb academic faculty.
Our emergency care is integrated within Banner Health Network and this includes both the Tucson and South Campus University Medical Center hospitals. The two campuses offer a uniquely broad training opportunity for our residents, fellows and medical students. We are one of the few emergency medicine departments in the nation to offer three distinct residency programs, each with a unique mission, vision and goal. We offer three (3) residency programs and eight (8) fellowship programs and our thriving medical student curriculum was awarded best clinical clerkship by the UA College of Medicine.
