Hospice & Palliative Medicine Fellowship

The UA Department of Emergency Medicine, in partnership with the Department of Medicine Division of Geriatrics, General and Palliative Medicine, offers an accredited one-year fellowship program preparing fellows for the Hospice & Palliative Medicine Board Examination.

Our emergency medicine fellows train with palliative medicine experts from internal medicine, critical care medicine, psychiatry, oncology, anesthesia/pain, emergency medicine, surgery and trauma, social work and the chaplaincy. The program consists of a variety of educational experiences on a busy consult service at a tertiary care facility, rotations at several high quality community hospices, a Veteran’s Administration hospice, an outpatient continuity clinic and opportunities for several electives. The curriculum includes didactic lecture, journal club, interdisciplinary team meetings with case discussions and participation in quality improvement projects.

Our fellowship offers a unique opportunity for the EM-HPM Fellow to moonlight as an Academic Emergency Medicine Attending in two busy urban Emergency Departments.

Our HPM faculty are committed to quality care, education, and advancing the field through innovative research. Thank you for your interest in our program.
