The Department of Emergency Medicine physicians provide adult and pediatric emergent and urgent care services for more than 140,000 visits per year at two medical centers in Tucson, Arizona:
Banner - UMC Tucson (BUMCT) is Southern Arizona's only Level I trauma center, providing trauma care to the most seriously injured patients in the southern part of the state as well as Southwestern New Mexico and Northern Mexico. Emergency services at BUMCT includes highly trained physicians specializing in areas such as:
- Pre-hospital care
- Brain injury and stroke
- Heart care
- Pediatric care at Banner Children's at Diamond Children's Medical Center
Banner - UMC South (BUMCS) Emergency Department provides emergency, urgent care and behavioral health care to the community.
Both sites are part of Banner - University Medicine, a premier academic medical network. Banner - University Medicine partners with the University of Arizona College of Medicine to conduct life-changing research and to educate new physicians who will become the medical leaders of tomorrow:
- 78 residents in three residency programs provide clinical care at both hospitals, including two emergency medicine programs and one combined emergency medicine and pediatrics program.
- Research faculty from the Arizona Emergency Medicine Research Center (AEMRC) are directing clinical trials in pre-hospital and neurologic emergency services throughout Southern Arizona.
Emergency Medicine faculty also provide medical direction for the Tucson Fire Department, paramedics, emergency management services, and staff sports medicine and toxicology clinics.
